Easter Concert Johannes-Passion
On the occasion of the Easter holidays, the Evangelical Church C.A. from Romania – The Parish of Brașov organizes a concert of sacred music on April 1, at 8:30 p.m., in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul in Brașov. The Capella Coronensis ensemble, the Bach Choir of the Black Church, the soloists Renáta Gebe-Fügi, Mihaela Ișpan, Dan Macavei, Nicolae Simonov, Dmitriy Rusinyak and Farkas András, conducted by Steffen Schlandt, will bring to the public one of the most appreciated compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach: Passions according to John. The organ music part will be played by Ursula Philippi.
Johannes-Passion is the first oratorio work composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. During the concert, the last days of Jesus Christ on Earth are told. The arias of the soloists and the protestant chorales are delimited in the introduction and in the conclusion by broad choruses. The Bach Choir, during its existence, performed this work 25 times, being a constant component of the music dedicated to Holy Week.
The Bach Choir from Braşov is the church choir of the evangelical community, founded in 1933 by Victor Bickerich, the cantor of that period. In 2023, the choir celebrates 90 years since its founding. The ensemble premiered many of Bach’s works in Romania: Matthäus-Passion (Passion of Christ according to Matthew), Johannes-Passion (Passion of Christ according to John) and numerous other religious pieces, especially by German composers.
The Brașov ensemble, Capella Coronensis, is composed of members of the Brașov Philharmonic, coming together under the direction of Steffen Schlandt to perform vocal-instrumental music with religious specifics. The repertoire consists of works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods in Europe and the Americas.
Tickets for the Pascal Concert can be purchased at the Black Church gift shop, INSPIRATIO, or online at Booktes.com.
